Police called in to make brother leave

The following are some of the calls of interest the Delta Police Department responded to in the South Delta area between Monday, Jan. 13 and Friday, Jan. 17:

Ladner

Jan. 13, 3:37 p.m., 6500-block of 68th Street: Report received from complainant that he had been left in charge of his parents' residence while they were out of the country and his brother had arrived at the residence and refused to leave. Police officers attended and found the brother, who also appeared to have permission to be on the property. The brother claimed he only came to pick up the mail and was quite willing to leave. Police suggested that if parents were to be away again that they be very specific as to who is to be left in charge. No assault or civil disagreement.

Jan. 13, 11:40 a.m., 4600-block of Deltaport Way: Police attempted to stop a vehicle that was speeding along the highway. Due to the amount of traffic, the officer lost sight of the offending vehicle and it was obvious the vehicle was evading the police as the officer had his emergency equipment activated. Police attended Deltaport and located the offending vehicle and driver. The incident is still under investigation.

Jan. 14, 12:50 p.m., 5600-block of Ladner Trunk Road: Police responded to a request for assistance where a father and son were having a heated dispute. The son had left the residence but continued to cause a minor disturbance outside, including swearing at police. The suspect was taken briefly into custody and then released once he calmed down. Police advised the suspect that if there were a further incident at the residence they would pursue criminal charges of causing a disturbance.

Jan. 14, 6:07 p.m., 64th Street and Meadow Place: Report received from complainant that he had just observed a male damaging a community mailbox. When he confronted the male he fled the scene in a white van with two ladders on the roof. Police found open mailboxes empty of contents and contacted Canada Post to advise of the possible theft. Neighbourhood inquiries proved negative.

Jan. 15, 1:06 p.m., 5700-block of Admiral Boulevard: Complainant reported his vehicle parked outside his residence had been stolen. The vehicle is described as a white 1992 Honda Accord. Information added to the police information computer system.

Tsawwassen

Jan. 14, 1:56 p.m., 5000-block of 12th Avenue: Report received of a male at the school playground watching kids during the lunch hour. The complainant felt the male was suspicious as he was partially covering his face with his hood. The male left the area in his vehicle. Police met with the school liaison officer and the principal and it was agreed that extra supervision would be provided for the next few lunch hours.

Jan. 15, 11:01 p.m., 1700-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported that her soon-to-be ex-husband is continually emailing her repeatedly asking for information prior to the court hearing. She feels it amounts to harassment. Police contacted the suspect who agreed to stop any further communication until the court date.

Jan. 15, 9:05 a.m., 1000-block of Eden Crescent: Report received from complainant that her vehicle parked in the driveway outside her home had been broken into sometime overnight. The suspect caused minor damage to the driver's side door. Items stolen, valued at $370, include gloves, leather bridal, sunglasses and CDs. Police neighbourhood canvass was negative.

Jan. 16, 5:32 a.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported that when she went to open the coffee shop for business she found the front glass door smashed. Inside the business two cabinets were opened and the rear door unlocked. Nothing appeared to be stolen. Police identification services attended for photographs and fingerprints. Two other businesses in the area also entered.

Jan. 16, 11:48 a.m., 1900-block of Beach Grove Road: A male living on a private boat was stuck at low tide in federal waters. The boat has no motor, power or means of propulsion. The Corporation of Delta contacted police requesting officers to stand by while they assisted the male in leaving the area. The owner was very friendly and appreciative of any help being offered. The police and the Corporation of Delta are still monitoring this issue.

Jan. 17, 1:33 p.m., 1100-block of Bayview Drive: Complainant returned home to find someone had entered his unlocked workshop at the rear of his property and several items were missing. Items stolen include an iPod, docking station, Makita skill saw, hammer drill and a Defender BB gun. Area patrols of the area proved negative.
