Delta Police are investigating an alleged assault that occured outside Seaquam Secondary on Wednesday afternoon.

Delta Police are in the early stages of an investigation into the alleged assault of a student.

Just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 11), BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) notified police that they had been dispatched to an assault that had occurred in the front parking lot at Seaquam Secondary in North Delta.

“Our officers attended and commenced an assault investigation,” said Acting Insp. James Sandberg, spokesperson for Delta Police. “The investigation is preliminary and our officers are looking to speak with more witnesses. The assault drew a crowd as school had just let out.”

Sandberg said as a result of the assault, BCEHS transported one youth to hospital with minor injuries. The youth has been released from hospital.

“Our officers have identified the parties involved and are working to collect evidence,” said Sandberg. “This evidence includes CCTV, cell phone video, and witness statements. “Our school liaison officers will also be working with the Delta School District to manage any associated safety concerns that arise from this incident.”

Principal Mark Robinson sent a letter to parents about the incident on Wednesday.

“Given students were leaving school at the time, your child may have seen or heard this incident and may have come home upset or worried,” said Robinson. “Counselling support staff are available for students and will be working to create a supportive environment for students to talk about any concerns.

“If students or their families have any information on the incident, we encourage you to contact Delta Police. If you think your child needs additional support, please contact one of the school admin or a school counsellor at 604‐591‐6166.

“Please rest assured that our students’ safety remains our greatest priority.”
