The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest.

Here is a snapshot of some of this week’s files:
Tsawwassen
Feb. 10, 10:32 p.m., 5100 block of 12 Avenue: Police were dispatched to a reported possible impaired driver, and after locating the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop to check for sobriety. After confirming the driver’s identity, police read them the Approved Screening Device (ASD) Demand, which resulted in a “REFUSAL.” Police subsequently issued the driver a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) from driving, and mandatory 30-day vehicle impoundment notice.
Feb. 13, 11:38 a.m., Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal: Police were requested to assist Victoria Police with locating and arresting a sexual assault suspect believed to be in queue at the Ferry Terminal. Police successfully located the vehicle and arrested the lone occupant for Victoria Police’s file.
Ladner
Feb. 6, 5:10 p.m., 2900 block of Highway 99: Police were dispatched to a reported collision. Once on scene, police found the suspect driver exhibiting signs of gross impairment, and read them the breath demand. Police subsequently detained them for impaired driving, and issued them a Sec. 215 suspension. The driver later provided a sample that was nearly twice the legal limit. Police charged the driver, issued them a 90-day Administrative Driving Prohibition (ADP), and impounded their vehicle.
Feb. 8, 00:05 a.m., 5800 block of Ladner Trunk Road: Police checked a vehicle while conducting a sobriety road block and, after querying the vehicle and identifying the driver, found them to be prohibited from driving Canada-wide. Police subsequently arrested the driver without issue, and impounded the vehicle for the mandatory seven-day period.
Feb. 11, 10:35 p.m., 5700 block of 44 Avenue: Police conducted a traffic stop to check for sobriety. After confirming the driver’s identity, police read them the ASD Demand, which resulted in a “FAIL.” Police subsequently issued the driver a 90-day IRP from driving, and a mandatory 30-day vehicle impoundment notice.
Feb. 12, 9:17 p.m., Highway 17A/Deltaport Way: Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding, and upon identifying the driver, found them not to have a valid driver’s license. Passenger advised they could drive the vehicle away, but police found them to have a notice to serve prohibition on their file for a period of two months. Police subsequently seized their driver’s license.
Feb. 13, 11:58 a.m., 800 block of Belgrave Way: Police were dispatched to a late report theft of vehicle after being advised by an employee that a semi-truck was missing from their lot. The semi was locked, and stolen without keys sometime overnight. File under investigation.
