The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest.

The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
Tsawwassen
*Jan. 10, location withheld, 9:56 a.m.: The mother of a 10-year-old contacted police, concerned because she had found inappropriate imagery on her child’s device. The mother believed the images were sent to her child through the chat function of a game they play. The mother was advised to disable the chat functionality on this app, and it was recommended she look into content filtering and anti-malware to protect her child’s device. Parents concerned about how to safeguard children online are recommended to check www.cybertips.ca.
*Jan. 12, 5:46 p.m., location withheld: Complainant contacted police after seeing a male with what appeared to be a firearm tucked into his jacket. Police responded quickly, including a police dog who tracked the individual to a backyard. The identity of the male was confirmed to be a teen. Police observed a number of toy guns in the teen’s bedroom, some of which had been painted to look more realistic. No safety concerns and no offence.
*Jan. 14, 4:33 p.m., Graham Drive: Emergency Health Services requested assistance regarding an aggressive dog which attacked a male inside a residence. Delta Animal Control attended and took custody of the dog and one person was sent to hospital, but fortunately was not seriously injured. Victim Services was offered.
Ladner
*Jan. 9, 7:56 a.m., 6200 Block River Road: Police attended the scene of a single vehicle roll-over collision. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, which was partially submerged in water. Fortunately the driver appeared to have only minor injuries. Icy roads are believed to have contributed to the collision.
*Jan. 11, 10:40 a.m., 7600 Ladner Trunk Road: A DPD Community Safety Officer was checking vehicles and determined that one vehicle in this location was associated to a prohibited driver. A DPD constable approached the vehicle and confirmed the driver was indeed driving while prohibited. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was towed.
*Jan. 11, location withheld: A complainant contacted police to report that an unknown person had tried to extort him. He had exchanged nude images on Instagram with this person, who then threatened to send the photos to his followers, if he did not send money. The complainant blocked the individual and deleted their contact, and did not send money. Police cautioned him about the risks of this type of behaviour.
*Jan. 12, 4:46 p.m., 4800 block Elliot: Police were contacted after a man was located who was disoriented. Police chatted with the man, and transported him to his nearby home, leaving him in the care of his wife.
