South Delta Crime Beat: Online fraudster steals $10,000 from account

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

• Dec. 26, 2:15 p.m., 5000-block of Canoe Pass Way: Complainant reported their vehicle was keyed while parked at the shopping centre. The complainant indicated they had a dispute with a person over the parking space.

• Dec. 27, 3:20 p.m., 4900-block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported a person was in the store applying for a store credit card using what appeared to be fraudulent identification. Police attended and confirmed the fraud and also found the person to be in possession of a stolen motorcycle. The person was arrested.

• Dec. 27, 10:08 a.m., Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal: Report received that a vehicle without a licence plate was parked in the short-term parking lot. Police attended and determined the vehicle was stolen. The owner of the vehicle was informed and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

• Dec. 27, 8:38 p.m., 1500-block of Farrell Avenue: There was a theft of tools from a locked utility trailer parked in the driveway of the complainant’s residence. The lock on the trailer was broken and approximately $2,000 in tools stolen.

• Jan. 1, 10:18 a.m., 1200-block of 56th Street: Complainant reported they had left their vehicle in the parking lot overnight and when they returned in the morning they found the passenger window smashed. Nothing stolen from the vehicle.

Ladner

• Dec. 27, 1:55 p.m., 4600-block of 48B Street: Complainant reported they had left their vehicle unlocked in their driveway and when they returned in the morning they found the centre console open. A pair of sunglasses and condominium key fobs were stolen.

• Dec. 27, 12:32 p.m., 4700-block of 55B Street: Complainant reported the theft of the decal from the licence plate of their vehicle. Information regarding the decal added to the police computer database.

• Dec. 27, 11 p.m., 5000-block of Central Avenue: Complainant reported that sometime overnight the Christmas light projector was stolen from outside their residence.

• Dec. 28, 11:12 a.m., 7100-block of Progress Way: Complainant reported the theft of batteries from various vehicles parked at the repair shop. Batteries valued at $1,200. 

• Dec. 29, 1:39 p.m., 4400-block of Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant attended police headquarters where they reported they had been the victim of fraud. The victim had been in contact with an unknown person for two weeks before they provided the person with their financial information from two banks. Approximately $10,000 was taken from the victim’s account and the suspect has not been heard from since.

• Dec. 29, 11:11 p.m., 7500-block of Vantage Place: A business reported a theft in progress with two people loading material into a pickup truck. Police attended and located the suspects who were found to have extensive property crime records. The complainant indicated they had given the suspect permission to take some scrap material but not to enter the gated work yard or take any other materials. Investigation is continuing.
