The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:
Tsawwassen
*Nov. 23, 4:35 p.m., 5000 block Canoe Pass Way: Police were dispatched to a theft in progress from a suspect known to store staff. Police arrested the suspect without incident, and upon investigation, found them to have been previously banned from the property, with conditions not to be found on site. Police transported them to Surrey cells to await a hearing on multiple charges recommended.
*Nov. 26, 4:24 p.m., location withheld: Police were made aware of a late report fraud dating back to 2010 after a resident completed a credit check. Approximately $20,000 in cumulative debts were apparently being owed communications providers not linked to the resident, likely stemming from reporting their wallet was lost more than 10 years ago.
*Nov. 27, 9:40 p.m., 5200 block 10A Avenue: Police were dispatched to a mischief in progress, after a resident reported their house was vandalized. The homeowner noted surface damage only, and did not get a description of the suspect(s) or direction of travel. Police located a group of six to eight youths nearby, but there was nothing to link them to the incident. A second, similar incident was also reported in the area.
Ladner
*Nov. 24, 12:36 p.m., 4400 block Clarence Taylor Cres: Police were dispatched to an altercation at the South Delta COVID-19 site after an attendee threatened to assault staff. The suspect was denied a second COVID-19 vaccine because it had not yet been 29 days since their first dose. Police advised them of the science behind the vaccination rollout, per on-site staff, and that they could return at their scheduled date to any local vaccination site.
*Nov. 25, 2200 block Highway 17: Police were dispatched to a suspected impaired driver after a witness noted a vehicle swerving all over the road. Police located a vehicle matching the description provided, identified the driver, and read them the Standard Field Sobriety Test demand. The driver performed poorly on the roadside test, and their license was suspended. The vehicle was towed.
*Nov. 27, 11:45 a.m., Delta Secondary school: Police received multiple complaints of generator noise at the high school, and asked that it be turned off. Upon attendance, police noted a power outage had occurred.
