The growing Tsawwassen First Nation looked east for its new chief administrative officer, hiring Braden Smith.

The Tsawwassen First Nation yesterday announced the appointment of Braden Smith to the position of chief administrative officer, effective Aug. 19, 2019.

Reporting to Chief Ken Baird and the executive council, Smith brings a wealth of government leadership experience from his roles as CAO for the District of Tofino, and more recently as chief city planner for the City of Winnipeg, a TFN news release states.

He has worked with First Nations communities in all of his government roles and, through his direction, is proud of relationships both built and repaired.

Smith’s background as a land use planning leader and local government public servant, combined with his master’s degrees in urban and rural planning, provides the sort of strong leadership necessary to implement the vision of chief and executive council, the TFN adds.

Smith left his position in Tofino several years ago to take the chief planner position for the City of Winnipeg, but this month submitted his resignation and will head back west.
