An impromptu sing along by Los Angeles singers David Sommerville and Bruce Belland along with Leonard Nimoy was one of the more memorable moments for the students.

Let’s head back to February 1971 when popular TV actor Leonard Nimoy paid a visit to Ladner.

Best known as Mr. Spock in Star Trek, Nimoy visited what was called at the time the Variety Farm Training Centre. He was one of several stars in town for the annual Variety Club Telethon in Vancouver and touring facilities.

The students at the centre had a field day gathering autographs and talking with the celebrities.

At the time, Nimoy was in the TV series Mission Impossible.

Also visiting the facility in Delta were Anna-Marie Alberghetti, George Maharis and Playboy’s Playmate of the Month for February, Willy Rey.
