Let’s head back to May 1973 when a lot of quick draws participated in a shooting contest at the Delta Fair Mall.
The Fast Draw Competition was hosted by the Pacemakers Fast Draw Club and sponsored by the Delta Fair Merchants Association. The audience got to see some of the top competitors in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
The event had categories for men, women and even kids who competed for trophies and cash prizes.
The event also had other entertainment including a bullwhip demonstration as an added attraction.
The shooting on May 26 began at high noon.
The name of the winner of the contest was not reported, only that he finished in 31/100th of a second.
The Optimist reported that his name would be “the sort of knowledge that tends to bring out quick shooter looking for you.”
