The Tsawwassen Sun Festival is making a return to in-person events this summer.
The 2020 festival was cancelled due to COVID-19, but a virtual event was held in 2021.
Now that pandemic restrictions have been lifted, the festival returns this year with most live events taking place at Winskill Park from July 30 to Aug. 1.
Sun Festival typically includes a parade, slo-pitch tournament, entertainment and family friendly games, drive-in movie, bingo and a beer garden.
The organizing committee had requested a $4,000 cash grant for this year’s event, which is a $500 increase from previous years, and council last week endorsed a staff recommendation to grant that request.
Council also endorsed a recommendation to provide $4,363 in in-kind funding to support park and facility rentals and highway use and beverage garden permits.
The festival will also be granted a temporary exemption from the city’s noise control bylaw for its evening movie event.
The planned hours for the 2022 festival are as follows:
Saturday, July 30 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, July 31 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Monday, August 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
More details on the event will be announced in the coming months.
