The Atom Storm won the North Shore Winter Club's inaugural girls hockey tournament in convincing fashion.

Bringing together teams from across the Lower Mainland, the North Vancouver tournament provided a thrilling weekend of hard skating and clean play.

South Delta swept its three qualifying games to place first heading into the semifinal. Standout players included scoring hotshots Madeline Davies, Camryn Harris and Charlotte Lee, each of whom earned game MVP awards. Goalie Francesca Yep played exceptionally well, recording a 5-0 shutout against Surrey in the second game.

In the semi-final, the Storm dealt a decisive 9-0 blow to Burnaby, a victory which earned forward Macy Young the game's MVP award.

Monday's final saw South Delta face the Surrey Falcons, a solid team with a formidable offense. The locals scored three unanswered goals in a ferocious first period blitz, but Surrey replied in the second with two quick tallies. The third period was a battle from end-to-end, with South Delta scoring twice more to lock down a 5-3 win. Ashley Morrow was named MVP of the final.

South Delta is becoming a force in girls' hockey. This year, 19 girls from Tsawwassen and Ladner make up the Atom Storm roster. These nine-and-10-year-olds play as a tight, cohesive team under the direction of head coach Jeff Morrow and assistants Wayne Okamura, Glen Young, Scott Ridgewell and Brent Lee.

The Storm also features: Natalee Okamura, Jade Ridgewell, Elise Ridley, Olivia Wickett, Emma Stradiotti, Jade Yarhi, Nava Hothi, Beatrice Ford, Amrita Bains, Sophie Cafouros, Meaghan Dillon, Julia Farkasch and Tamara Ash.
