Ladner’s James Paxton struggled early, but settled down in the middle innings to pick up his first win in a Yankees’ uniform in New York’s 8-4 win over Baltimore Thursday afternoon.

The Orioles touched up the left-hander for three runs in the first inning thanks to a leadoff homer from Jonathan Villar, a couple of walks, a wild pitch and a balk.

But in his second start with New York since an off-season trade from the Seattle Mariners, Paxton managed to work 5 1/3 innings allowing four runs and eight hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

“It was a really rough first inning,” Paxton said in a post-game interview with MLB.com. “I need to do a better job than that. It wasn't good. The good part was I was able to come back and keep the team in the game and continue to battle.”
