Pioneers clinch playoff spot at President’s Cup

Ladner is in second place with one day left in round robin play

The Ladner Pioneers have clinched a playoff spot at the 2024 President’s Cup national lacrosse championship tournament in Ladner.

Ladner had a great day on Wednesday winning a pair of games to move to 4-1 in the standings alongside the Allegany Arrows and Edmonton Miners.

The Pioneers opened the day beating the Arrows 16-8 and then finished the day with a 5-4 win over the Victoria Shamrocks.

Based on goal difference, the Arrows sit in first place, Ladner second, Edmonton third and the fourth and final playoff spot is currently held by the Snake Island Muskies who have a 2-2 record.

Snake Island will play twice today (Thursday) as the round robin wraps up.

Ladner plays Snake Island tonight at 8 p.m. at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

The only team that could catch Snake Island for the final playoff spot is the Six Nations Rivermen who sit at 2-3. They would have to win their game and have Snake Island lose at least one of their games to at least have a mathematical shot at the fourth playoff spot.

The semifinals will be played on Friday with the first seed vs fourth seed game at 4:30 p.m. and the second seed vs third seed game at 7:30 p.m.

The bronze and gold medal games are on Saturday.
