The U18 and U15 A1 South Delta Storm rep hockey teams are off to the semi-finals of their respective provincial tier two championships that conclude later today Wednesday (March 22).
In Campbell River, the U18 Storm capped a perfect run in round-robin play with an 8-1 win over Fort St. John on Tuesday. A playoff berth was already locked up 24 hours earlier thanks to a 4-0 triumph against Trail after opening the championships with a 6-4 victory over Peninsula.
Max Kidds-Brodie leads the South Delta attack with seven points thus far including five goals. Jacob Bailie and Bradley Bates each have six points and three goals. Arjun Chahal leads all goaltenders in the championships with a 2-0 record and a .50 goals against average thanks to a shutout against Trail.
The Storm will face Pool “B” runner-up Kelowna in this morning’s semi-final. The other match-up has Pacific Coast champion Hollyburn taking on Trail. The bronze medal game goes at 5 p.m. followed by the gold medal game at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, the U15 A1 Storm secured its spot in the championship round with a 6-1 win over Cranbrook on Tuesday afternoon.
South Delta got two goals each from Blair Pashak and Thomas Cowan to earn the semi-final berth in a battle of 1-1 teams.
The Storm opened the championships with a 4-1 loss to unbeaten Victoria Minor before bouncing back with a big 9-1 win over host Greater Vernon on Monday.
Dominic Dumas is enjoying a productive tournament with seven points in three games, including four goals. Ryan Rackow also has seven points with three goals.
Mason Buors has been solid in net with a 1.67 goals against average over the three starts.
The Storm play Pool “A” group winner Kelowna in the semi-finals at 8:15 a.m. this morning. The gold and bronze medal games will be played later this afternoon.
