The South Delta Secondary Sun Devils looked poised for long playoff runs after a pair of blow out wins last week.

The senior varsity team scored 22 unanswered points in the third quarter breaking open a 13-7 game to beat Notre Dame 35-7 in its final home game of the season last Saturday.

The win improved the Sun Devils overall record to 8-1 and 4-1 in conference play.

South Delta also secured at least the second seed in the conference when the playoffs start in two weeks.

South Delta travels to the North Shore on Saturday for its final conference game against Handsworth.

South Delta led 13-7 at half-time but blew the game open with an 85-yard kick-off return touchdown by Koen Hubbard to open the second half.

The defence came up big on several drives, stifling the Jugglers’ offence while the Sun Devils offence capitalized on several drives to win going away.

Dominic Dumas finished with 154 rushing yards with two TDs, as well as 134 passing yards and two TDs. Damian Dumas rushed for 78 yards on 12 carries.

Quinn Sjoberg led the wide receivers with two catches for 48 yards, while Holden Hunter had four catches for 40 yards.

Defensively, Gage Spargo led the way with seven tackles while Tommy Cowan, Dominic Dumas and Hudson Robinson, each had five tackles.

“We beat a really solid and well coached team they slowed our primary offensive weapon today, but we showed that we can win in different ways,” said assistant coach Scott Martens. “This was a total team effort especially in the second half, with special teams and defence leading the way. That to go with a well-balanced offence that was able to spread the ball around. It was a great way for our seniors to go out on with their last home game in South Delta.”

Junior Varsity

The junior varsity Sun Devils played its final conference game of the season last Thursday, resulting a 34-0 win over Sullivan Heights.

The win pushed the Sun Devils record to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

South Delta has a bye this week and will have to wait to see what seed they will get for the playoffs.

South Delta opened the scoring on a 55-yard punt return from Cameron MacVeigh.

This was followed by a 33-yard touchdown pass from Quinn Kirincic to Easton Geisbrecht for a 13-0 lead.

Luke Farrell ended the first quarter scoring with a 22-yard touchdown run.

There was no scoring in the second or third quarters.

In the fourth, the Sun Devils scored a pair of running touchdowns – a seven-yard rush from Ben Fuerniss and a 27-yard run from Evan Steeves.

South Delta dressed a lot of back-up players giving them lots of playing time, while resting many of their key starters.
