The surge in COVID-19 cases has prompted Delta council to go back to having all its meetings available online-only for the public.
The change was announced at council’s regular meeting on Monday when it was noted it’s going to be that way for the foreseeable future beginning Dec. 1.
That means all council and committee meetings as well as public hearings will be virtual.
The public was able to attend Tuesday's public hearing but most who participated did it via the Internet or phone.
Saying it’s a challenging time for everyone, Mayor George Harvie also reminded the public it’s important to follow the new provincial health orders, but for people to check in on loved ones who may be alone by phone.
Council’s move follows what’s been approved in other communities including the City of Surrey, where that council recently approved returning to virtual meetings only to ensure the safety of the public, staff and council members.
Meanwhile, Fraser Health this week noted it is “critically important” for people living in the health region to not wait and use the COVID-19 assessment tool and get tested as soon as they have COVID-19-like symptoms, even mild ones.
People are urged to book or drop by one of the collection centres which are operated in partnership with local Divisions of Family Practice.
