Just how many Delta residents have been infected by the coronavirus?
That what Delta council wants to know as a request will be made directly to Premier John Horgan and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry for Delta-specific numbers, data Mayor George Harvie said he had tried to get from the health region but got nowhere with his request.
Coun. Lois Jackson put forward the motion at last week’s council meeting, saying the city needs information on the number of infections and deaths in order to get a better handle what Delta is doing well and areas that may need improvement.
“Local government is really not being informed about the numbers. We know the Canadian numbers and we know the provincial numbers. We know the health unit numbers throughout are province and we wonder why all the secrecy,” said Jackson.
Saying there’s no reason not to have the information, she noted as far a privacy, the city doesn’t want names and addresses, just numbers.
Harvie agreed, saying they also need the ages of those who got sick.
The Delta Division of Family Practice in partnership with Fraser Health established a COVID-19 testing and collection site in Ladner for those who develop cold, influenza or COVID-19-like symptoms and want to be tested.
The site is located at the Delta South Home Health Office beside City Hall.
Members of the public can book an appointment for testing through their family doctor, or walk or drive to this site and be seen on a first come, first serve basis.
