Editor Ted Murphy perhaps hasn't had a lot of experience with the proliferation of roundabouts in B.C. Here are four that are awkward in the extreme:
. 8th Avenue at the Highway 99 overpass where trucks regularly sphincter cars coming off the two-lane entry points;
. Highway 9 at Minter Gardens where trucks coming from the south enjoy similar playtime with cars entering from four directions;
. The Victoria Airport roundy that pits cabbies against anxious travelers;
. But worst of all is the McCallum Road overpass at Highway 1 in Abbotsford that is a dizzying farrago of straight/ left-plus-straight/left-only/ right-plus-straight options that regularly result in flashes of brake lights, horns and road rage.
Meanwhile, the one on Earles in Vancouver, a block south of Kingsway, works: a relatively quiet side street application.
Call me skeptical about Arthur Drive and Ladner Trunk. Most of the ones I use regularly are more menace than helpful mitigant of traffic tie-ups.
