It’s candy time!

Halloween night (Oct. 31) is upon us. Tonight, children of all ages will dress up in their favourite costume and go door-to-door, trick-or-treating.

This night brings up many fond memories of Halloweens past when I was a child.

I was born and raised in Saskatchewan. I lived on the prairies until I was 12, when my dad relocated our family to B.C. because of a change in his job.

As young kids, we had some terrific Halloweens in Saskatchewan – and some cold ones two.

One such Halloween occurred when we lived in North Battleford. It was so cold, that my dad trailed my brother, sister and myself in his car. We would stop at three or four houses and then pile into the car to warm up and have a sip of hot chocolate from our Thermoses.

Other Halloween memories include spending great times with friends and neighbours, a Halloween night hot dog roast in the backyard, filling our pillow cases to the brim - if we could - with candy and then rushing home to pour out the loot to see what we had – just a lot of good times and memories.

I’m hoping that many more family memories will be made tonight for all.

Delta police will be out and about making sure that Halloween is a fun and safe night for everyone.

Police have provided us with a few Halloween reminders for all the little ghouls and goblins out there:

*Make sure that nothing obstructs your vision so you can see clearly while walking

* Stick to well-lit areas and always use crosswalks when trick-or-treating

*Add reflective elements to costumes to stay visible

*Ensure costumes are flame-resistant and well-fitted to prevent tripping or snagging

Let’s all have a safe and fun Halloween and make sure more wonderful memories are made.
