Letters: Connected crosswalks are not safe

The current set-up sets everyone up for failure

Editor:

The three connected crosswalks in front of the Dollar Store in Tsawwassen have long been a hazard.

The traffic that goes through the three-way stop signs is always in a hurry to get in or out of the mall. I’ve seen many close calls with pedestrians crossing there and cars not stopping or paying attention. Recently it was my turn to be a part of one of those ‘close calls.’

I was 15 feet into the crosswalk on a sunny day when a white Volvo turned right into me and kept coming. It was impossible not to see me, but he was too focused on catching the green light ahead onto 56th.

I would implore the powers that be to improve the vehicle/pedestrian interaction in this spot. The current set-up sets everyone up for failure.
