Thank you for your thoughtful piece (Optimist, editorial, June 20) on the social media reaction to the accident in the tunnel on June 12.
My husband knew the victim - they had worked together before my husband retired. He told me that the deceased had one more year before retirement, making the tragedy even more poignant.
I’m heartened to know that someone in your influential position felt the need to express your repugnance for the heartlessness of these individuals. I believe it’s incumbent upon a caring society to point out callous disregard for suffering, no matter what form it may take or whatever human or animal it is directed against.
