Sign of the times in Centennial Tides

When most people pick out a place to live, they have done their research to find an area that means a great deal to them and to their neighbours.

We were/are the first residents of Centennial Tides in beautiful Boundary Bay and we watched everyone come in to build their new lives just as we did, at a great area right beside the beach, with a very fitting name.

Over the years that have passed, every time we told someone we lived in Centennial Tides, they always commented how super of a name that was as it reflected where we lived and the lifestyle we enjoyed.

How things change as years go by as the local residents have seen. We did have two beautiful signs at our entrance way that identified the neighbourhood to quests, trades, family visiting, the whole gambit.

But sadly, some newer people living here don't give a dam about much, much less their neighbours. One sign, years ago, was torn down to redo the front yard, and I understand that, but the sign was thrown out in the garbage, which extremely upset the neighbourhood. The damage was done, so what could you say?

The last sign, which I had looked after for years, was then painted over to match the house on which corner of our entrance it was located. Again the neighbours were very upset but most won't say anything, because again, what could be done?

Well, it was late spring, and as I have done since building here, I again went and trimmed all the plants and weeds around the sign, which you could barely read because of the colour. I was extremely ticked off when one day later the last sign of our area was removed.

The neighbours are all talking, they are all extremely upset over the callous attitude towards our area and our identity. I have never in all my life seen neighbourhood signs removed.

When you move into a home that has a neighbourhood sign, you are accepting what you are getting, a neighbour indemnity, not just a stupid sign. It is an assault on the whole community.

We now have no name. We can't tell anybody we live in beautiful Centennial Tides because it does not exist anymore. We are now reduced to just a bunch of houses.

So, on behalf of all the neighbours that have expressed their strong opinions with me regarding this issue, I want to thank the person responsible for removing our last sign and our identity. Thank you so much!
