Of course Mayor Lois Jackson and Chief Jim Cessford are opposed to a regional police force. After all, this is Delta, where everyone resists change... all the time.

No matter what logical arguments are put forth for the idea of sharing police intelligence and police resources, in the end it all comes down to considerations of power.

Cessford doesn't want to see any erosion of the power and authority he wields in Delta; and neither does Jackson. Nevertheless, I think we have a fine police service for our little town, and there's nothing inherently wrong with that.

But it is not going to make any headway against big-time crime, and we can't expect it to do so.

Only the bigger forces can do that, with their superior resources, regional intelligence and more enlightened leadership.
