Moved back to Tsawwassen again and here I will stay.
Tsawwassen has grown in population since my first home in the 1960s but it has still retained its green, natural landscaping and lovely cared for residential gardens.
I have faith in the plans for the new malls. We deserve them as much as Richmond, Surrey, White Rock, etc. The well established specialty shops will be fine and maybe the proprietors will work in their own stores instead of a new face every time you go.
So many stores in Tsawwassen have opened only to have absentee owners and have failed. A nearby mall will save gas rather than having to leave the area to shop. I wonder if senior citizen couples have thought about only having one car. After all, Tsawwassen has a vast amount of retirees. If the malls doesn't abide with our green theme, they won't fly.
Speaking of flying, where is all the air traffic that is disturbing certain residents as they camp out on their chaise lounges waiting and counting the noisy planes overhead?
The planes aren't passing over my home overlooking Beach Grove Golf Club. I tried to listen for two summers and all I heard was the droning of light aircraft.
It reminded me of my dad teaching flying in a Tiger Moth in France while we were stationed over there. He used to tell stories of the Second World War about lying in the grass in Britain with his Boulton Paul fighter plane, which he named "The Beau Fighter," noisily idling beside him as he waited for the siren to go and he went to defend his country.
Sometimes at night I hear the whining of a jet engine gearing down (I am sure that is not the term) to land at YVR. I feel a rush of excitement and wonderment at the technology. I guess I am missing something, but I don't think so.
It is a peaceful and friendly community here in sunny Tsawwassen and that in itself is such a blessing. Whatever plans take shape, it will be a benefit in the end.
