The 56 Street multi-use pathway would run from 6th Avenue to Winskill Park.

The City of Delta is asking for feedback from residents on proposed cycling infrastructure improvements along 56th Street between 6 Avenue and Winskill Park in Tsawwassen.

The multi-use pathway project includes a 3.5-metre-wide asphalt pathway, grassed boulevard, street trees and LED street lighting along the east side of 56th Street between 6th and 8A avenues, as well as new signage along 8A Avenue and 55A Street to provide a connection to Winskill Park through the existing travel lanes.

The city notes that construction is tentatively planned to start in the spring of 2025.

The project had been delayed as the preliminary designed was originally to be completed by October 2023 with construction planned for the spring of 2024.

The city notes the cycling improvements along the route are identified in Delta’s Cycling Master Plan.

A public information meeting with city staff will be held to discuss the proposed design and potential adjustments.

That meeting is scheduled for Sept. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Winskill Park Fieldhouse (1037 56 St.).
