Delta is giving away another 250 trees to help the greening of the city and to ease the effects of a warming climate.

But you’ll have to sign up for the draw in order to be eligible for the giveaway that will see five varieties of trees disbursed, such as the vine maple, the Dawyck purple beech, Judy Zuk magnolias, California incense cedar and liberty apple.

Signing up for the Planting Our Roots draw begins Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. and will run until Sept. 25.  A similar giveaway happened in the spring.

“Delta truly embraced Planting our Roots this spring and I am glad to see the project back again, giving away 250 more trees to enrich our community,” said Mayor George Harvie in a release. “Initiatives like Planting Our Roots strengthen community bonds, enhance our neighbourhoods and benefit Delta’s natural environment. I encourage Delta residents to enter the contest for a chance to win their very own free tree.”

Residents entering the draw can rank the species, based on their preference, and trees will be given out based on availability.

The lucky recipients will get their free tree to their door by mid-October, in time for fall planting.
