The City of Delta will consider additional traffic calming measures for the Royal York neighbourhood in North Delta.

The Barrymore Drive/ Monroe Drive Roadway and Utility Improvements Project includes roadway widening, new sidewalks with new rollover curb and gutter, a new watermain along Monroe Drive, LED street lighting improvements, new boulevard trees, traffic calming measures, drainage improvements including ditch infill, as well as roadway re-paving.

The project is taking place along Barrymore Drive from 7775 108 Street to 7701 Barrymore Drive, Monroe Drive from 108 Street to 10986 Monroe Drive, Garfield Drive from 7822 Garfield Drive to Monroe Drive, Garfield Drive from Monroe Drive to 7643 Garret Drive and Garrett Drive from Monroe Drive to Garrett Place.

Following a public information meeting last November to gather resident feedback on traffic concerns, the city will also undertake a neighbourhood-based traffic calming review with broad engagement with residents.

A request for proposals has been issued for a consultant to review the traffic concerns and historical crash data, engage the community to discuss and observe transportation issues in the field, collect traffic data and develop a preliminary traffic calming plan.

A public information meeting on the proposed plan will then be scheduled for this September.

Based on feedback from the area residents, the consultant is to refine the traffic calming plan, develop an implementation strategy and prepare a report to summarize the findings and the recommended plan, including cost estimates and the detailed design.

The preliminary plan is to be completed by this August.
