Kyndred Community Living Society (Kyndred) has been selected by BC Housing to administer a rental housing subsidy to eligible applicants.

The “Canada‐British Columbia Housing Benefit” (CBCHB) is intended to support vulnerable individuals and households in housing need, including people with developmental disabilities.

The amount of the benefit depends on the recipient’s income, the number of people in the household and the amount they spend on rental housing. The benefit may range from $25 to $909/month for eligible applicants.

Kyndred’s director of inclusive living, Chrisoula Jana shares “this benefit will make a huge difference for people with developmental disabilities in our community who qualify for this benefit.”

There are some eligibility criteria that must be met including the benefit must only be used to supplement rental payments on non‐subsidized units, the residence must be the recipient’s primary residence, the residence must be in B.C., and the recipient must pay more than 30 per cent of their gross monthly income towards rent. This benefit is also income tested.

To receive more information about the benefit, including eligibility requirements or an application, interested individuals can contact Kyndred by email at [email protected].

The deadline for this round of applications is Friday, Nov. 1, but Kyndred will continue to accept applications until all its allocated subsidy spots are filled.
