The South Delta Artists Guild presents its new show Reflections at Gallery 1710 in Tsawwassen starting Nov. 29.
Reflection is an interesting term as it has several interpretations from an artistic standpoint. Self-reflection implies stepping back from the external world to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves.
A painting doesn’t imitate a scene, it’s the artist’s interpretation that reveals a deeper understanding of photos, and sketches.
Paintings reflect our relation to others and the environment. Colours and shapes from dabbling with our brushes express our experiences and our views of the world, often of something that’s out of sight, and created with inner vision.
On Saturday, Nov. 30, as part of the show opening, Shelly Wales, a backpacker and hiker keen on Plein air observation, will be explaining how she builds a watercolour from her sketches and photos.
She will show you how to make a simple sketch book that you can use to capture images when you are hiking or just walking around your neighbourhood.
Plan on being at the gallery just after noon for this entertaining presentation.
Gallery 1710 has an excellent selection of cards, sculptures, objects d’art, and unframed paintings in shrink wraps. Have a peek at what’s on offer this month and view the show online at www.southdeltaartistsguild.com.
Gallery 1710 is located on 56th Street beside the South Delta Rec Centre.
