Get ready for delays on a busy stretch of Ladner Trunk Road (Hwy. 10) in East Ladner.

The City of Delta has issued a request for bids for the construction of a Ladner Trunk Road and 112th Street culvert.

The work will consist of the removal of the existing culvert, installation of a new culvert and headwall as well as restoration of the pavement structure.

It is intended that the contract will be awarded in October and construction is to commence as soon as possible.

The construction is to be completed by this December.

The working hours are estimated to be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. No work is permitted on Sundays or holidays.

The work hours maybe limited if significant complaints are raised by surrounding residents and there is no other way to satisfy their concerns, according to the city.

In addition, work hours maybe limited at the time of issuance of a City of Delta Highway Use Permit.

The contractor may also be required to open the road fully to allow for an increase of traffic volumes at specific times to pass through the work zone.

The contractor also must submit a traffic management plan for Delta’s review and approval. That plan must be fully integrated with the contractor’s construction staging plan and schedule for carrying out the work.

“The contractor shall keep the work zone tight. The length of the work zone shall be reviewed and approved by City of Delta. The work zone shall be opened to traffic at the end of each day. The contractor shall ensure that the work zone has compacted base gravel prior to opening to traffic. No traffic shall be allowed on the existing road subbase. The contractor shall keep the existing road outside the work zone safe and in driveable condition at all times prior to paving,” the city states in its request for proposals.
