Another six Delta Police officers have been added to Alexa’s Team for their role in taking impaired drivers off Delta Roads.
In 2008 a Delta family and community was devastated by the tragic loss of a little girl. This little girl, Alexa Middelaer was killed by a drunk driver while feeding horses along a rural road.
Out of this tragedy, was born the Alexa’s Team program, a program aimed to recognize officers in B.C. who work toward reducing the number of impaired drivers on the roads.
The DPD officers named to the 2020 Alexa’s Team are constables Ganesh Krishnan, Brandon Orser, Nav Bring and Scott McClure as well as A/Sgt. Grayson Smith. There is one officer who cannot be named. Together, these officers took 138 impaired drivers off Delta roads.
“Police officers across this province work incredibly hard to keep impaired drivers off B.C. roads, but here in Delta, I have to say it’s personal for us,” says Insp. Kim Campbell, who oversees the Traffic unit. “The tragic loss of Alexa touched us deeply, and that’s one of the reasons why we keep up the pressure on impaired drivers year round. 24/7. Our officers have a passion for keeping impaired drivers off the streets of Delta. The head of our Traffic unit is one of those named to Alexa’s Team, and he spearheaded our training program on detecting drug-impaired drivers.”
Campbell congratulated the Delta officers and all those named to Alexa’s team this year.
Officers from all police detachments and departments in B.C. are eligible for membership in Alexa's Team. To qualify, you will have conducted a minimum of 12 impaired driving investigations in 2018 that have been the subject of an Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) Fail or Refusal, an Administrative Driving Prohibition (ADP) or an investigation forwarded to Crown for Criminal charge approval.
