The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest.
April 2, 1200 Block of Derwent Way: A transport business reported the theft of a $40,000 truck. The complainant advised that the key was left in the gas tank and there were no suspects. The GPS was ripped out of the truck and left on the ground. The vehicle was entered as stolen on the Canadian Police Information Centre and the complainant was advised to contact ICBC.
April 3, Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that they received a text stating their GST return of $280 was available. The complainant followed the link and provided their SIN and online banking info. The complainant realized they were the victim of fraud when their CRA online account info which was never setup was requested. The complainant contacted the bank who were able to stop a fraudulent $1,200 transaction. The complainant was advised to contact Equifax and TransUnion.
April 3, 8800 Block of 120th Street: Complainant reported their wallet stolen from their gym bag that was left in a cubby at the athletic club. The wallet contained personal and bank cards and $40 in cash. All cards were cancelled without any suspicious transactions. The surveillance video was examined but did not yield any potential suspect descriptions.
April 4, Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant e-transferred $1,600 for the purchase of Taylor Swift concert tickets as advertised on Facebook. The tickets were not received and all communications with the seller ceased. Queries of the e-transfer recipient name and email by police proved to be negative. The bank was informed of the fraud, and police advised Facebook of the offence for removal of the account.
April 5, 7700 Block of 119A Avenue: Complainant reported the theft sometime overnight of the catalytic converter from their vehicle parked at their residence. Surveillance video revealed the suspects, but did not capture the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle.
April 6, 9100 Block of 120th Avenue: While conducting sobriety checks of vehicles leaving the area of the liquor store, police stopped a vehicle which failed to stop at the stop sign. The driver indicated their last drink was at 9:30 a.m. Two breath samples were provided by the driver with both reading fail. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver was picked up by a friend.
April 7, 9500 Block of 117th Street: Complainant reported that in the early morning hours someone entered their vehicle and stole a Louis Vuitton perfume valued at $400 and $30 in loose change. The vehicle had been left unlocked. Surveillance video provided by the complainant was not suitable for the identification of the suspects due to poor quality. A file number was provided for ICBC.
