The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest.
April 22, 1600 Block of Derwent Way: A business reported the theft from their cargo trailer, which was hitched to their truck. Items stolen valued at $6,000 include De Walt drills, grinders, skill saws, angle grinders, chop saw, and several hand tools. No surveillance video of the immediate area. Investigation to continue with canvass of neighbouring businesses for surveillance video.
April 22 9100 Block of 112th Street: A report received of mischief to the men’s washroom at Annieville Park. Three teenage boys were observed exiting the washroom leaving the toilets full of paper towel and hot embers on the ground from burnt paper towel. Police attended and patrolled the area, but the suspects were gone when officers arrived.
April 24, 9900 Block of River Way: Complainant reported the theft of the catalytic converter from their vehicle at their business. Staff heard a sawing noise and then witnessed a black pickup truck fleeing the scene. Police to be provided with surveillance video.
April 25, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had been contacted by a person pretending to be their son indicating his phone had broken and provided the complainant with a new number. The ‘son’ required financial help, resulting in the complainant sending significant value in Bitcoin to the suspect. The complainant became suspicious when the son called using the old phone number. Police requested the complainant provide screenshots and receipts of the money transfers to investigate the fraud.
April 25, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they were the victim of fraud. They had been contacted via Facebook to apply for a grant to receive up to $200,000 and a car. To receive the grant, the complainant sent substantial funds in gift cards and bank drafts to the suspect before they realized the situation was fraudulent. Bank transfers were stopped due to the fraud. Police discussed a safety plan including credit monitoring with the victim who has blocked their social media account.
April 26, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: A citizen attended the Public Safety Building with a black leather men’s J. Crew bifold wallet found on the 414 bus from the Richmond Oval. The wallet contains several personal and bank cards as well as a small amount of cash. Attempts to contact the owner not successful. Wallet lodged in exhibits and the owner can claim on identification.
April 28, 8800 Block of 120th Street: Complainant reported their wallet stolen from their workplace. The wallet was stored in the back of the store and when they finished their shift, they found the wallet missing. The wallet contains several personal and bank cards, and a large amount of cash. The complainant has cancelled bank cards and applied for a new driver’s license. No surveillance video, witnesses, or suspects. Police referred the complaint to TransUnion and Equifax to monitor their credit.
