Dec. 27, 10500 Block 84th Avenue: Complainant reported a break and enter to their residence. Police attended and contained the residence. A search of the residence proved to be negative for a suspect. The point of entry was through a rear glass door. Surveillance video captured a male walk up to the front door, and shortly after the sound of the glass could be heard breaking. The complainant was unable to confirm if anything had been stolen. Investigation of the incident to continue.
Dec. 27, 6400 Block Beechwood St: Complainant reported the theft sometime overnight of the catalytic converter from their vehicle parked in front of their residence. Approximate value of the loss $1,500. Surveillance video from the residence negative. Numerous catalytic converter thefts have occurred in the past few months in the same residential area.
Dec. 29, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had utilized a TikTok account to expedite their US Travel Visa application before realizing the site was fraudulent. The complainant began having text conversations with the user, and gave personal information including banking, log-in credentials, and a scanned copy of their passport. The TikTok account demanded money to expedite the process, at which point the complainant ceased dealing with the account and the incident did not go any further. Police advised the complainant to block the text number, and to contact Equifax, and TransUnion re identity theft and credit monitoring. The complainant was also referred to the proper authorities for applying for a USA Travel Visa.
Dec. 30, 1500 Block of Cliveden Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of their passport and wallet along with identification cards from their workplace. The complainant indicated they had left to go to the washroom, and when they returned a short time later, they noticed their desktop drawers open, and their personal belongings missing. The credit card was subsequently used at Wendy’s. The stolen passport was reported to the Canadian Passport Agency. No surveillance video or witnesses at the workplace. Investigation to continue with potential surveillance video from Wendy’s.
Dec. 30, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: The complainant reported they received a call from a male, advising that one of their daughters was in jail after being at fault for a car accident, and they required $2,000 for their daughter to be released on bail. The complainant was unsure of how to transfer the money so gave the caller their banking information and password. The money was transferred before the complainant realized they were the victim of fraud. The bank was contacted and indicated the complainant would be receiving a full refund. Police advised the complainant to contact Equifax and TransUnion for account monitoring. Police to investigate where the money was transferred.
