North Delta Crime Beat: German deli gets an unexpected drive-thru window

*June 20, 7800 Block of 112th Street: The recreation centre reported an unknown male had spray-painted the side of a garbage holding area. Video surveillance was obtained, but images of the suspect were not clear enough for dissemination purposes. The male is described as South Asian, mid 20’s, wearing black clothing and a purple cross body bag. 

*June 21, 7900 Block of 112A Street: Complainant reported a male had entered their vehicle and stole the key to their spouse’s vehicle. The male then attempted to start the spouse’s vehicle, but were not successful. Surveillance video revealed the male leaving the area with the key and trying other door handles of vehicles on the street. Incident still under investigation with the dissemination of still photographs of the suspect. 

*June 21, Public Safety Building, 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported that an unknown person was attempting to extort money from them, following the posting of intimate images on a match making website. The extorter demanded $1,500 from the complainant or they would send the images to their spouse, whose profile was on Facebook. Queries of the email address provided to police proved negative. A safety plan provided by police discussed with the complainant who was advised to cease any conversation with the suspect and deny any request for funds. The incident is still under investigation.

*June 22, 10100 Block of River Road: During a proactive patrol, police stopped a vehicle leaving the parking lot of the pub. A distinct odour of liquor emanated from the vehicle; breath samples were requested. Two samples provided by the driver with both reading ‘fail.’ As a consequence, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside suspension, a 30-day driving prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded.

*June 24, 10500 Block of Santa Monica Drive: Complainant reported their vehicle, parked on the street, had the front passenger-side window shattered with scratch marks near the window frame. No surveillance video in the area. Police provided a file number for insurance purposes.

*June 24, Nordel Shopping Centre at 84th Ave and 112th St.: At approximately 4:30 p.m. officers attended for a report of a car into a building. Upon attendance, officers located significant damage to the front wall of Altmaerker German Sausage and Deli, and Peter F Pook Insurance Agency. Investigation determined that the driver of the car confused the gas pedal and the brake pedal while parking and unintentionally accelerated into the building. There were no injuries as a result of the collision, however, the building suffered significant damage.

*June 25, 11900 Block of Staples Crescent: Complainant reported witnessing the theft of the catalytic converter from their neighbour’s vehicle. Police attended the residence and observed on surveillance video, a Caucasian male arriving in a Chevrolet SUV, and cutting off the converter. The video was not suitable for identification of the male suspect. The incident still under investigation.
