North Delta Crime Beat: Impaired driver clocked at 140 km/h on Highway 17

Aug. 11, 9900 Block of River Road:  Complainant reported the break and enter of their docked barge at approximately 3:30am by an unknown suspect who used a neighboring property’s rowboat to access and enter the barge, while the complainant slept.  Unknown suspects stole a plasma cutter and tool bag.  CCTV provided to police by complainant and neighbouring property.

Aug. 12, PSB 11375 84 Avenue:  Complainant reported being the victim of a scam after receiving a text from an unknown person claiming to be their brother in need of $650.  Complainant sent money via e-transfer before realizing they had been the victim of a scam.  Complainant to contact their bank to see if the transfer of funds can be reversed.  Complainant educated on the sophistication of scams.

Aug. 12, PSB 11375 84 Avenue: Complainant reported they had been defrauded of $8000 after transferring money to multiple email addresses and phone numbers of an unknown person claiming they could give a discount on property taxes and various bills.  Complainant advised to contact bank to inform them of fraudulent activity, stop communicating with the unknown person, and to provide documents of money transfers to police for further investigation.

Aug. 13, Highway 17 at 80th Street:  Approximately 0100 hours an off-duty police member advised of a possible impaired driver driving eastbound on Highway 17.  Off Duty member advised they were following a red Honda Accord and had observed the vehicle driving at 60 km/h then suddenly changing to 140 km/h weaving in and out of lanes and failing to maintain its lane.  Police observed the vehicle in the 10400 Block of Scott Road, conducting a traffic stop.  Suspicion of alcohol formed through distinct odor of liquor on breath.  Driver failed two breath samples and was issued 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and vehicle was towed.

Aug. 13, PSB 11375 84th Avenue:  Complainant reported the theft of several small items from their vehicle while parked in front of the residence sometime overnight.  Complainant unsure if vehicle was locked as there was no signs of forced entry or damage.  Complainant advised that 2 pairs of glasses, car insurance papers and house garage opener were stolen.  CCTV canvass negative, no witnesses or suspects.  Advised to follow up with ICBC for new insurance papers and reprogram a new frequency for garage door opener.
