The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Aug. 1, 9000 Block of Fircrest Drive: Complainant reported a male and female entered the backyard and stole a red Craftsman chainsaw, and red Milwaukee Hackzall reciprocating saw. Investigation found the thefts to be attributed to the two who had been living in a tent in the area. The two suspects were located and arrested. A search of their bags revealed both stolen items and a black BB handgun. The two were arrested and later released with a requirement to appear in court on a future date.
*Aug. 4, 400 Block of Derwent Place: Complainant reported they ordered a $350 Apple Watch through Amazon and when it was delivered the box had been tampered with and was empty. Police provided the complainant with a file number for Amazon to proceed with a refund.
*Aug. 5, 11800 Block of 80th Avenue: Complainant reported their garage had been broken into sometime in the evening and keys to their house, vehicle, and camper were stolen. Possible surveillance video made available from a neighbour. Police advised the complainant to change the locks to the house, and trailer, and not leave any valuables in their vehicle.
*Aug. 5, 11800 block of 90A Avenue: Complainant reported the theft, sometime overnight of two bikes from their driveway. The bicycles were unlocked and parked along the house. During a patrol of the area police located one of the bikes, which was returned to the owner.
*Aug. 7, 7000 Block of 120 Street: During routine traffic enforcement in the area, police observed a male leave a store and drive away in their vehicle. Police conducted a stop and noticed a distinct odour of liquor coming from the driver. The driver provided police with two breath samples, both reading ‘fail.’ An immediate 90-day driving prohibition was issued, and the vehicle was impounded for 30-days. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver left the area in a taxi.
*Aug. 7, 7800 Block of 116th Street: Complainant reported they had an Amazon package stolen from their doorstep. The mother of the complainant observed a slim male grab the package and drive off in a blue pickup truck with bicycles in the back. File number provided to the complainant for Amazon to process a refund.
