The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest.

Here is a snapshot of some of the police files for this week:
Jan. 31, 11:55 a.m., 11400 block of 83A Avenue: Police were dispatched to a break and enter to a home under construction. The property owner advised entry was gained via jumping the fence and cutting the chain-locked front door. Tools and recording equipment taken. No damage.
Feb. 1, 9:38 a.m., 8000 block of Wadham Drive: Police were dispatched to a reported stolen vehicle after the owner advised they started it in their driveway, went inside to grab something, and returned to find it missing. File under investigation.
Feb. 1, 5:23 p.m., 900 block of 120 Street: Police responded to a reported break and enter, and found an intoxicated individual inside a residence, with the entryway damaged. Police arrested the suspect for break and enter and mischief, and confirmed that no one else was in the residence. Police confirmed with the suspect that, once inside, they realized it was the wrong unit, and transported them to Surrey Cells.
Feb. 2, 5:09 a.m., 11500 block of 80 Avenue: Police were dispatched to a reported suspicious person trespassing on a nearby property. Police were provided a description of the suspect by the resident, and located them nearby. Upon further investigation, police determined that a break and enter had occurred, and arrested the suspect in question.
Feb. 3, 3:35 p.m., 10100 block of Nordel Court: Police were dispatched to a reported mischief and theft from auto after an employee found a work vehicle with extensive interior damage. Police confirmed the door lock was punched to gain entry, and found discarded needles, cigarette butts, and suspected methamphetamine throughout the damaged vehicle. File under investigation.
Feb. 3, 5:03 p.m., 11600 block of 72 Avenue: Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle motor vehicle incident. Upon identifying the drivers, read one driver a test demand for suspicion of drugs. The driver performed poorly on the roadside test, and was subsequently issued a violation by drug driving prohibition roadside, and had their vehicle towed.
Feb. 4, 11:53 p.m., 9400 block of 120 Street: Police conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles after observing them travelling at high rates of speed in tandem, between red lights, apparently street racing. Upon identifying the drivers, police issued both drivers violation tickets for excessive speed, and towed both vehicles per the mandatory seven-day requirement for excessive speed and stunting violations.
Feb. 5, 8:50 a.m., 8600 block of 120 Street: Police located an intoxicated person in the bushes with drug paraphernalia in-hand. The individual self-identified to police, who confirmed identification and were made aware via police queries that they were breaching multiple conditions of their probation. Police subsequently arrested the individual without issue.
