More than 40 cyclists representing the South Delta Riders and Boundary Bay Cycling Club joined together Thursday morning for a ride to honour Dick Nicholls.
Nicholls, a beloved local cyclist and founding member of SDR died after he was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon near the Boundary Bay Airport.
On Thursday the cyclists met at airport and rode slowly to 36th and 72nd – the scene of the accident, where they observed a moment of reflection and then rode slowly to Petra’s for a social gathering.
Delta police continue to investigate the collision and what occurred.
Several independent witnesses have now provided statements to police, but DPD are asking others who may have information to come forward.
“It is too early to determine if there will be any charges in regard to the collision,” added Leykauf. “However, as part of the investigation, police are looking into traffic flow in the area, as well as the volume of cyclists who use the area to access the Boundary Bay Dyke, or as a route to travel to Ladner Trunk Road.”
Police will also consider potential view obstructions or engineering recommendations, and will be writing a report on the incident. The investigation will also include an examination of the vehicle involved.
