Tsawwassen
*Sept. 11, 1700 Block of 56th Street: While conducting traffic enforcement, a vehicle travelling at 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, passed a police vehicle. The vehicle was stopped at the Point Roberts border crossing. The driver was given a speeding ticket and the vehicle impounded. The driver was cooperative with police and was picked up at the border by a friend.
*Sept. 11, Headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported being the victim of a crypto currency scam. The complainant met a female “Sally” on We Chat, who convinced the complainant to invest $50,000 worth of Bitcoin through a Decentralized Application on Trustwallet’s platform. The complainant became suspicious of the interaction when they were unable to retrieve their initial investment. Police advised the complainant to cease all communication with the suspect and to provide police with the chat logs and transactions for the investigation to continue.
*Sept. 12, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: The Loss Prevention Officer of a business reported three South Asian males entered the sunglass area of the store. Two of the males distracted the clerk while the older male stole two pairs of sunglasses valued at $420. Police were provided with surveillance video.
*Sept. 12, 5000 Block of Canoe Pass Way: A report of a theft in progress was received from the Loss Prevention Officer of a business. Police attended and arrested two suspects and recovered $1,000 in razor blades as well as Coach purses from an unknown store valued at $3,600. Both suspects were arrested and transported to police headquarters where they were released on an undertaking to appear in court at a future date.
*Sept. 15, headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Crescent: Complainant reported they received a call from a person claiming to be from Amazon, requesting the complainant download a program to process a refund. The complainant cooperated and provided the suspect with banking information. When the complaint attended their bank to transfer funds to the suspect, the bank recognized the fraud and stopped the transaction. Police advised the complainant to never provide personal and banking information to anyone over the phone. The incident reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
*Sept. 16, 1700 Block of 56th Street: A query of a vehicle travelling south revealed an expired license and as a result a traffic stop was initiated. As there was a suspicion of alcohol consumption, the driver provided police with two breath samples with both reading ‘fail.’ The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
Ladner
*Sept. 12, 5200 Block of Ladner Trunk Road: A business reported the theft of two Dyson hand dryers valued at $1,800, from the washrooms. Police to examine surveillance video and obtain still photographs for possible identification of suspects.
*Sept. 14, 5100 Block of Ladner Trunk Road: A business reported a person was attempting to withdraw $40,000, using a fraudulent identification. Police attended and arrested the suspect and transported them to police headquarters. Police queries revealed the correct name of the suspect who has two outstanding warrants out of Surrey. The suspect was subsequently transported to Surrey RCMP cells.
*Sept. 16, 5400 Block of Chamberlayne Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of a package, which was captured on surveillance video. The suspect is described as female, wearing a pink/purple dress, brown boots, with tattoos visible on her right leg and right arm. The suspect left in a grey Hyundai SUV. Police to examine surveillance video and continue investigation of the theft.
*Sept. 16, 2900 Block of 53rd Street: During a roadblock, police spoke with a driver who admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day. Two breath samples were provided, both read ‘fail.’ As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
*Sept. 18, 5100 Block of Westminster Highway: A complainant reported a 1.5-foot-long snake in their driveway. Police attended, and located a small common python wrapped around the front driver’s side wheel of the vehicle. Police captured the snake and eventually located its owner who was unsure of how the snake got free from its cage. Snake returned to the owner without incident.
