“Ted [Andres] developed the property and asked if Yorke would be interested in making a sculpture for the space a few years ago,” said Karen, who is also an artist. “Ted got us in touch with a local farmer and Yorke went out to his field and took apart an old 1940s clipper combine and made a number of flowers out of that.”

Yorke describes the piece as an ode to the history, culture and cultural diversity that has shaped the community of Delta.

“It’s basically a bouquet,” adds Yorke.

A plaque is also situated beside the sculpture that reads: “In gratitude to all whose labour and love cultivated the community of Ladner we call home.”

Yorke said the project has spanned a few years with the project completed in the past month.

“She is creative director,” said Yorke of Karen, adding both worked together to create the design and the flowers. “It looks great. While we were installing it we already had quite a few people walk by and notice it. It’s whimsical and fun, so we’re excited how it came together.”
