Delta’s Kelsey Harshman will join eight others from Surrey and the Fraser Valley as part of Team Canada at this year’s Canada Cup International Softball Championship June 28 to July 7 at Softball City in Surrey.
Hashman won bronze with Canada at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The infielder also won bronze at the 2018 WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship in Japan.
Harshman has a degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin where she started every game while playing for the Badgers from 2015 to 2018. She also set school records for on base percentage (.527), runs (180), and walks (181). She is set to enter her fifth year with Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball for the 2024 Championship season in Rosemont, Illinois.
Also on the roster is pitcher Sara Groenewegen from White Rock, Larissa Franklin of Maple Ridge, Callum Pilgrim from Abbotsford, Katie Korstrom from Abbotsford, Grace Messmer from Cloverdale, Kianna Jones from Surrey, Madelyn McKinnon from Surrey and CC Wong from Port Coquitlam.
The roster boasts a blend of seasoned and emerging talent, including six members from Canada’s 2020 Olympic softball team and 13 athletes from the 2023 WBSC World Cup Group Stage, where their efforts secured Canada’s spot in the World Cup Finals.
The team also includes 16 athletes who competed in last year's Canada Cup, while five new faces will make their debut for the Canadian Women’s National Team.
The Canada Cup showcases some of the top female athletes from all-across Canada and the world as well as more than 1,500 athletes at the national and club level.
The biggest and best international fastpitch tournament in Canada includes five divisions: Women’s International, Futures Select (U19), Futures Gold (U19), Showcase Select (17U) and Showcase Gold (17U).
