Islanders win one of three during NIPD lacrosse day

A great day to celebrate lacrosse in Ladner

The Delta Islanders Lacrosse Association hosted a day of lacrosse on Saturday at the Ladner Leisure Centre (LLC) celebrating the game and National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Played in front of a good crowd all day, the JB2 Islanders opened up with a 15-6 loss to the North Shore Indians.

Nate Brost scored twice with singles to Dylan Maskell, Oliver Hoegg, Ayrton Bodo and Charlie Glover.

The loss dropped the Islanders record to 5-7 on the season.

Up next was the JB1 Islanders who beat the Maple Ridge Burrards 14-9.

The win improved the Islanders record to 11-6 on the season.

Vaughn Pinchin led the way with five goals, while Brady Mackay added a pair. Solo efforts went to Keelen Magcalas, Simon Poole, Devin Virk, Isiah Gill, Zachary Milne, Michael Burt and Sebastian Miles.

The Islanders final regular season game is at home this Sunday, June 30 with a 2 p.m. face-off at the LLC against Nanaimo.

The day wrapped up with the B.C. Junior ‘A’ Islanders squaring off against the New West Salmonbellies.

New West was in control most of the night leading 2-1 after the first and 11-7 after the second period scoring four more in the third for a 15-8 win.

Rylan Weisbrod and Sam Strother each scored a pair, while singles came from Blake Young, Turner Anderson, Austin Lamoureux and Dylan Doucette.

After winning three of four, the Islanders have now dropped three straight, to see their record drop to 4-7 on the season.

Delta hosts New West again on Wednesday night (June 26) at 8 p.m. at the LLC then plays five-straight road games before closing out the regular season on Saturday, July 13 with a 7 p.m. home game against the Poco Saints at the LLC.
