Tsawwassen’s Allison Lee-Meyer continues her quick ascend in becoming one of the top track cyclists in the country.
The Grade 12 South Delta Secondary student is fresh off attending Cycling Canada’s Junior Worlds Selection Camp, run by national team coaches Tanya Dubnicoff and Kinley Gibson, in Bromont, Que. Lee-Meyer earned the invite thanks to being just one of four female riders to achieve the world standard while participating at the 2023 Junior National Track Championships, also held in Bromont.
The 17-year-old captured silver in the Junior Women’s Team Pursuit and added a bronze in the three-lap Junior Women’s Sprint, out-dueling Quebec’s Maxim Lapointe. She nearly reached the podium in the Junior Women’s Pursuit, finishing the eight-lap 2 km bronze medal race just behind Ontario’s Vanessa Montrichard.
It’s only been three years since Lee-Meyer got her start in competitive cycling when she learned of Burnaby Veldrome Club’s generous BIPOC youth cycling program that provided her a 10-week introductory program free of cost.
A year ago, her progress was measured at the Western Canadian Track Cycling Challenge where she raced to six medals, including three golds on her home track.
Now she is getting the attention of Cycling Canada.
