University grads excelling after football

South Delta grads are now grads of McMaster and University of Toronto

It all started with the South Delta Rams and the South Delta Sun Devils for Justin Smith and Stef Goulas.

The two players graduated from South Delta Secondary in 2017.

It is extremely rare for two B.C. boys to receive scholarships to play football at an Ontario university where they both had the grades to be accepted into the prestigious halls of McMaster University. There, they each earned their Bachelor of Science Honours degrees in Kinesiology, graduating in 2022.

They both had dreams of becoming Physiotherapists. They had applied to multiple schools knowing that this would probably be the time when they would begin their journeys at other schools. Well, even rarer than the first acceptance, both were accepted to the number one school in Canada for their master’s degrees in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto, graduating together earlier this month.

Both have physiotherapy jobs and are living and working in the Toronto area.

Along the way, they have been “thick as thieves”, adding so many truly amazing friends and families to their duo.

I am truly grateful for the relationship that we have had with the Goulas family. We were comforted to know that the boys had each other as we were thousands of kilometres away. And just as the boys had each other, the Smiths and the Goulas had each other too. And we will all continue to do so.

I am so proud of Justin and my “bonus” son Stef. Congratulations to you both and to the Goulas family. We all look forward to seeing what you will achieve in your careers.
