A large-scale Delta greenhouse that’s made the switch to cannabis is now jumping into the edibles and vape markets.
Emerald Health Therapeutics, Inc. this week announced it has entered into a multi-year agreement with Valens GroWorks Corp. to supply product for cannabis extraction and product development services.
Under the agreement, which has a four-year term, Emerald will supply Valens with a minimum of 10,000 kilograms of cannabis and hemp biomass annually for processing on a fee for service basis into premium quality resins and distillates.
The B.C.-based Valens will also provide white label services including formulation, mixing and filling for product formats such as vaporizers, soft gels and tinctures.
Emerald says it expects to make its first shipment in the first quarter of 2020.
Emerald has a partnership deal with Village Farms in East Ladner in a cannabis venture called Pure Sunfarms.
It says it’s in full production in its first 1.1 million square foot greenhouse, with a second 1.1 million square feet of greenhouse space planned to be in full production by the end of 2020.
Having all required licensing from Health Canada, Valens is one of the largest third-party extraction companies in Canada.
It recently rebranded itself from Valens GroWorks Corp. to The Valens Company, saying it reflects its focus on the development of cannabinoid-based products and plans to enter international markets in 2020.
Valens notes it offers a range of products including soft gels, oral sprays and vape pens as well as beverages, concentrates, topicals, edibles, injectables, natural health products and expects to have more “novel products” in the Canadian market in 2020.
In other cannabis news, Health Canada announced that it will start testing the health effects of inhaling substances emitted from cannabis vape products.
