Exploring South Delta's best barbecue chicken pizzas: a flavour journey

The latest Culinary Corner food tour

Pizza! Need I say more?

What a great, simple and satisfying meal.

I find that everyone often has a favourite that we tend to stick to.

I am unapologetically ham and pineapple, extra pineapple, extra sauce if you’re feeling crazy, and don’t forget to add spicy chili oil. But a family favourite in our house lately has been barbecue chicken pizza.

Here in South Delta, we are so lucky to have so many great options for pizza, so I decided to try three spots to see what they are famous for.

To start we went to Madhouse Pizza in Tsawwassen.

I was excited to try this pizza as I always see their cool truck driving around town. Just by first sight you could see how it was absolutely loaded with barbecue sauce. Underneath you found large chunks of chicken and lots of it. The crust was thick, yet soft enough to enjoy, while the flavour of barbecue sauce was nice and smoky. We are off to a great start.

Next up is a well-known restaurant in Ladner, Niagara Falls Pizza. Here we found a pizza with a thicker crust as well as big chunks of chicken and a homemade barbecue sauce that was a bit on the sweeter side. I really enjoyed the amount of cheese mixed with the slices of red onion, it added a nice crunch and flavour.

Our final stop was Grizzly Flatbread, which is a newer pizza option in Ladner.

The unique crust was so soft and delicious down to the last bite. This pizza included corn, red onion, lots of chicken and a delicious sweet, yet smokey barbecue sauce. I really enjoyed the fact you could taste the flavour of the wood fire in the crust.

How lucky are we to have so many options here in South Delta for a family favourite, pizza?

I thoroughly enjoyed all three, but if I had to choose a favourite, I would have to go with Madhouse Pizza.
