I can’t believe September is already here.
There is a slight chill in the air as kids prepare for the return to school.
Unfortunately, one of mine is feeling under the weather, and all that sounds slightly appealing to eat is broth, so off to get some pho I go.
My usual order is chicken ball Pho. I don’t venture far from there very often, but for a change, I decided to ask a few restaurants what their most popular pho was, and interesting enough they all said beef.
I started out at Pho Fresh, located in the heart of Tsawwassen. They recommend to me to try the popular seared garlic steak Pho.
I also ordered a side of spring rolls, (because how can you eat Vietnamese without tasty spring rolls)?
The soups’ broth had such a pleasing, yet subtle taste of garlic. The broth was so clear and refreshing. It almost felt like your body thanking you as you ate it. The bowl was filled with thick rice noodles, green onions and chunks of juicy steak in between.
The spring roll was nicely fried with great crunch, and the texture of the meat with mushroom was very satisfying.
I next tried Pho Saigon in Ladner Village.
Here I tried their Beef House Pho. This dish was made with three different beef choices - beef balls, beef brisket as well as rare beef.
Each type of meat absorbed the flavours of the broth, leaving you so much variety with each bite. The broth was so hearty, while the spring roll was perfectly cooked and stuffed to the brim with meat and veggies.
Finally I tried Pho Haven, also located in Ladner Village where it was suggested that I try the rare beef, Pho.
The scent of the broth was so evident, with hints of cilantro hitting you instantly. The flavours translated beautifully within the generous slices of meat as well, leaving your pallet full of freshness and flavour. The spring rolls were on the thinner side but served as the perfect finger food to dip into some delicious fish sauce!
I am so glad I stepped out of the box, because these meat dishes really delivered on quality and flavour. I can easily see why they are the most popular and will be ordering them again.
The House Beef Pho from Pho Saigon really left an impression on me personally.
The three different beef options felt like three meals in one dish, full of a variety of textures and flavour. Let’s not forget about the spring roll, which in my opinion, was main dish delish!
So here is your sign to order something new, because you just never know what you might find. Enjoy!
