Delta police say there will be reduced lanes on Highway 17 westbound while officers reconstruct the collision to determine what happened and why it occurred.

One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Delta.

According to police, at approximately 4 a.m., officers received a 911 call regarding the collision on Highway 17 westbound at exit 23B. This is the exit from Highway 17 westbound to the Highway 91 Connector that takes you towards Alex Fraser Bridge and North Delta.

“Once our officers arrived on scene, they determined that the collision involved a single vehicle and a single occupant,” said Acting Insp. James Sandberg in an email to the Optimist. “The Deta Fire Department extricated the driver and BC Emergency Health Services transported the driver to a local hospital with serious undetermined injuries.”

Sandberg said there will be reduced lanes on Highway 17 westbound while officers reconstruct the collision to determine what happened and why it occurred.

Currently, as of 9 a.m., the slow lane is closed for the investigation.

It is still too early in the investigation to determine cause/contributing factors for this collision, said Sandberg.

“As the road does have some curves near the collision investigation, we ask that the public slow through the area for the safety of crews on the road as well as the safety of the travelling public,” he added.
