North Delta Crime Beat: Bandit flees store with stolen T-shirts

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. Oct. 3, 8100 Block of 120th Street: A business reported a male had selected three T-shirts valued at $50 and fled the store without payment. The male is described as about 50 years of age, wearing a blue baseball cap and black jacket. Police attended and conducted extensive area patrols with negative results. 

Oct. 3, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant was contacted by someone they believed to be their boss and had purchased $2,200 in Apple gift cards believing them to be gifts for employees. The caller asked the surprise to be keep secret.  The serial numbers of the cards were sent to a location in Texas. The complainant realizing they were the victim of fraud, contacted Apple who were able to delete the funds off the cards. As the complainant is new to Canada, officers provided them with information regarding frequent active scams.

Oct. 4, 11200 Block of 89A Avenue: Complainant reported the theft of their grey Honda Civic. Complainant left their residence for a trip to Toronto and when they returned, they found their vehicle, which had been parked on the street, was stolen. The keys to the vehicle in the possession of the complainant and no one else was given permission to drive the vehicle. A towing company checked regarding the vehicle with negative results. The vehicle entered in the Canadian Police Information Centre as stolen.

Oct. 5, 11700 Block of Summit Drive: Police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle, which was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. A distinct odour of liquor emanated from the driver’s breath. Two breath samples provided by the driver both read “warn.” The driver was given a 24-hour immediate roadside prohibition and driver’s licence seized. The driver was picked up by a friend.

Oct. 5, 7700 Block of 112th Street: Police attended a motor vehicle incident were the driver of one of the vehicles displayed signs of impairment. Two breath samples provided by the suspect both read “fail.” As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
